Stone Colours

An important choice is the colour, type and finish of the stone for your monument.
The colour of the monument is the most important feature and can dictate all other features.
From which accessories you select to the material used for the inscription.
The colour can even be selected based on your loved favourite colour.

From the simplicity of White Carrara Marble and G20 Black Granite,
to the more busy Sapphire Brown Granite and Steel Grey Granite,
to the ever popular Black, Blue and Emerald Granite Pearls.

Our staff can help you choose the best colour, finish and type to suit your loved one's memory.

Stone Type and Finish

Type

Stewart Masonry offers two types of stones, these are Marble and Granite.
The majority of our range is primarily Granite stone with Marble only making two of our colours.
These two being; Imperial Beige and Carrara White.

When selecting between Marble and Granite there are a few differences to consider.

Marble

Marble is a well known for being a porous stone and is much soft than Granite.
A common comparison is to say Marble is like a sponge, it will absorb anything it comes into contact with.
Making it a stone type that can easily stain if it comes into prolonged contact with organic and metal items.
Due to its soft nature, it can also scratch and chip more easily than Granite.
It is a stone that does require more attentive care and caution.
It is also a stone type that will, with time, show clear signs of aging.

Marble is however a very popular and traditional choice, with Carrara White Marble being the most commonly used stone in the metropolitan cemeteries.
It would be a fair estimation to say in the metropolitan cemeteries that over 60% of the monuments use or have Carrara White Marble in their design.

Granite

Granite is well known for its more durable natural, its is stronger and hard compared to Marble.
Whilst less likely to stain, scratch and chip than marble, certain colours can be prone to damage due to their natural composites.
Granite colours such as Blue Opal, Emerald Pearl and all Black variations are prone to cracking and pitting in the Australian summer due to the heat.
And lighter colours such as Multi-Colour Red, light Greys and White colours can be prone to similar staining issues like Marble.
Granite does require less than Marble, but does still need a level of care and caution.
It is a stone type that will stand the test of time, never truly loosing its vibrance or showing any signs of age.

Granite is fast becoming a favoured stone type due to its above mentioned durable nature as well as its larger colour variety.

Both types will need ongoing care and maintenance.
