Gold Leaf Lettering

Each letter is sand blasted into the surface of the stone.

First the area is painted with a backing glue and then gold leaf sheets
of 23 carat are applied to each letter.
This is left to set for a day, and then washed off to reveal
lettering inlaid with gold leaf.

This technique is usually applied to medium to dark granites colours,
the darker the stone the more the gold looks richer in colour.
Time line approx 10-15 years for granite

Cut Only or Reverse Cut Lettering

The surface polish is removed to show a light grey colour underneath

Each coloured granite polish has a different effect.

Raised Lead Lettering

Holes are drilled into the stone to outline the letter
Hot lead is then poured into the area, then the letter is marked
out, chisels are used to cut out the shape of the letter.
Once this is finished the lead is left raised from the surface of the stone.
This technique is used with granite only
It is an old fashioned but tested technique.Time line approx 45 years onwards.

Leaded Lettering

This is a traditional approach to engraving on white marble.
Each letter is sand blasted, drilled and lead is beaten into the
the holes and worked down until it’s made flush with the surface of the stone.
Then it is washed off to reveal lettering filled with lead and flush to touch.
This technique is applied to white marble only.
Time line approx 50 years.

Raised Bronze Lettering

These letters are self adhesive and precast in bronze
and are mainly use in the mausoleum indoor chapels
These can be used outside but will discolour.
The bronze will in 5-10 years loose its colouring and
turn black.

Painted Lettering

Each letter is sand blasted into the surface of the stone
painted with an exterior enamel, left to dry and then washed off to reveal lettering inlaid with gloss paint.
This technique is applied to all to granites colours
and also to white marble.
Time line approx 3-5 years.
